Dave and I thought everyone would get a kick out of seeing a behind the scenes look at how monkey house strips get written. Here’s the email convo between Ray, Dave, and Myself. (Also, I didn’t get it at first either, so an explanation may help.

Do we have a one off strip to run on Thursday? I’d prefer to start the new story arc on a Tuesday. I can try and come up with one if we got nothing in the coffers.
-Ray
Maybe Tom is working on my sin city one!
-Dave
How about a one-panel?
moe) Opa!
derek) It’s just not the same with Kraft slices.
-Dave
i don;t get that one.
-Ray
Opa is what you say when lighting saganaki – the greek flaming cheese.
but they use a special cheese.
I’ll let tombo break the tie
-Dave
ahhh ok, i get ya now. We can do that, but i’d like to stretch it out to a full 4 frames.
-Ray
I don’t care. The easier the better. I’m crazy busy with work, schoolwork, kids in school and new dog.
-Tom
I kind of like it 1 or 2 panels, but maybe that’s just because I’m efficient!
-Dave
what about this;
PANEL 1: Moe, ‘Hey, I’m getting ready to make some saganaki, want some?’Â Derek, ‘Sure’.
PANEL 2: Moe shakes pan around
PANEL 3: Moe pulls out a match (Is that how they light it?)
PANEL 4: Moe, ‘Opa!’ Derek, ‘You know it’s just not the same with Kraft singles.’
-Ray
It’s great
-Tom
I still like my single-panel version, so if you’re busy, you can run an abbreviated one
-Dave
(Tom decides to compromise and make a 3 panel strip. SUCK IT BEOTCHES!)
It’s like watching sausage get made!
